Syria Still Suffers

The Syrian civil war has been an ongoing conflict for four years now. Beginning in 2011 the world’s nations decided to stay independent from the issue, let the Syrian government control their own people.

In 2013 photos were leaked linking Syrian officials to the illegal use of chemical weapons on civilians. The U.S. was very close to invading a second time in the Middle East to overthrow another government.

Two years later and the Syrian’s remain attacked by their government, so much so that they flee from their own country with nowhere to go. And still there are reports being brushed under the rug of chemical weapon use back in September of this year.

Whether or not the UN could’ve done anything to stop the conflict or would’ve simply made it worse is no longer part of the debate. The Syrian’s have given up on the safety of their own country. 4 million thus far are a part of the refugee crisis.

And the United Nations and the European Union must work to facilitate this unexpected influx of immigrants. Germany and Britain have received the greatest of the surge and Germany has worked endlessly to place 700,000 Syrian’s in shelters.

Refugees meander the oceans searching for a new place to try to thrive. To stand up and live without fear of dying. But the death still follows them on their makeshift rafts. 3,000 migrants have been reported as dead this year alone- many of which have been children of the families.

But somehow it is even worse in their home country. This risk and uncertainty are worth it to them, they’d rather perish in the ocean than suffer in their homes. They want their children to survive with their culture, without fear of their government, they want their family names to thrive for generations.

Many European countries are very negligent to the refugees, implementing stricter border control in many of the countries migrants are attracted to. Many claim that they flee to escape poverty which is not worthy of their resources.

When in reality nearly three-quarters of the immigrants are fleeing war-torn countries and extremists dictators- which grants them the rights to asylum.
